What to prepare for the Trek

 ALL PERSONAL ITEMS MUST BE ABLE TO FIT IN THE 5-Gallon TREK BUCKET
(except the sleeping bag)

All electronic items are prohibited, such as cell phones, iPods, etc. 

A journal will be provided when you arrive. A historical committee will be on the Trek to take photos. Please arrive dressed in pioneer clothing and ready to check in with the trail boss. You will be wearing one set of clothing when you arrive, and the other set you will use for changing. Ask around or visit second-hand stores such as Goodwill. Don't wear clothing that you wouldn't want subjected to heavy use.

  • 5 gallon bucket w/ lid (for all clothing and personal items except sleeping gear) [we will provide this]

  • 1 warm sleeping bag, put inside plastic bag

  • 1 inflatable sleeping pad (optional)

  • 1 old coat (heavy and warm)

  • 2 pair of socks NO COTTON, merino wool preferred

  • 2 sets of underclothing

  • 1 swimsuit

  • 1 small hand towel, bar of soap, and a comb or brush

  • 1 toothbrush & toothpaste

  • 1 refillable water bottle

  • 1 tin pie plate (not aluminum)

  • 1 set utensils: fork, spoon, butter knife

  • 1 plastic or metal cup

  • An old set of scriptures

  • 1 HEAVY DUTY plastic garbage bag

  • Several bandaids

  • Leather gloves (pushing/pulling handcart, gathering wood, etc.)

  • 1 pair of tennis or hiking shoes to hike in (don't wear new ones -- they will give you blisters. Hiking boots tend to be heavy, inflexible and are likely to rub you wrong which means foot pain and blisters - therefore hiking boots are not recommend)

  • Prescribed medications: (Prescribed medication(s) will need to be discussed with and provided to a medical staff member upon check in, unless otherwise arranged with the medical staff upon arrival.)

  • Pocket size fold up rain poncho (or garbage bag with holes for head and arms)

  • Stocking or knit hat for cool nights

  • Insect repellent

  • Small package of hand wipes

  • Sunscreen

  • Deodorant

  • Chapstick (lip balm)

  • Pen/pencil

MEN should bring:

  • 1 pair of pants, fast-drying fabric recommended. Khaki or Dockers are okay (no blue jeans, shorts, etc.)

  • 1 long-sleeved shirt (Pioneer style in neutral solid colors- no logos or t-shirts)

  • 1 wide-brimmed western style hat (no baseball or army hats allowed)

  • suspenders/belt (optional) (solid, neutral colors only)

  • 1 pair of pajamas

WOMEN should bring:

  • 1 mid-calf length or longer, long-sleeved dress or 1 mid-calf or longer skirt and 1 long sleeve blouse

  • 1 or 2 bonnets or wide-brimmed straw hat

  • 1 pair of knee-length bloomers (can be made out of old pajama bottoms or hospital pants—patterns are available upon request)

  • 1 apron with pockets (optional)

  • 1 pair of pajamas

  • Hygiene supplies

Optional Items:

  • A pocket knife (no sheath knives)

  • Harmonica or other small musical instrument
